QUANTiNO 48VOLT

QUANTiNO: 12.5 times around the world

Read time: 0 min

The QUANTiNO has reached a milestone that speaks for itself. Powered by the nanoFlowcell® 48VOLT low-voltage electric drive, the test vehicle passed the 500,000-kilometre mark in late summer this year. Half a million kilometres on public roads offer a rare, authentic insight into what this technology can deliver.

At first glance, the QUANTiNO presents itself as a modern, compact sports coupé. Its design is clean, confident and unmistakably forward-looking. Yet the real story unfolds beneath the bodywork. What defines this vehicle is not its exterior, but the nanoFlowcell® 48VOLT energy system driving it.

The low-voltage electric motor delivers 80 kW and propels the 700-kilogram coupé from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds. The top speed, electronically limited, sits at 200 km/h. What stands out even more is the consistency of its performance. Where conventional battery-electric vehicles often face thermal limits at higher speeds, the QUANTiNO continues effortlessly. The nanoFlowcell® flow-cell system maintains stable operation even over long distances. The only limiting factor is the capacity of the electrolyte tanks.

The only intelligent charging technology for electric vehicles is refuelling

The most striking difference between the QUANTiNO and standard battery-electric cars is the way energy is replenished. There is no charging cable. No long waits. The nanoFlowcell® is refuelled with bi-ION® electrolytes. The refuelling process mirrors that of a combustion-engine vehicle and takes only four to five minutes.

The bi-ION® fluid itself stands out: it is non-flammable, non-explosive and environmentally compatible. In terms of safety, sustainability and resource efficiency, it offers a refreshingly simple alternative to current EV charging approaches.

Over 56 months, the QUANTiNO travelled more than 500,000 kilometres, the equivalent of 12.5 trips around the globe. Average consumption during this time was approximately 16 litres of bi-ION® per 100 kilometres, around 10 kWh in energy terms. With its two 95-litre tanks for the positively and negatively charged electrolytes, the 2+2 coupé achieves an operating range of roughly 1,140 kilometres.

To ensure the results reflect genuine use, most of the testing took place on public roads. Covering half a million kilometres was demanding for both vehicle and drivers, but the team prioritised real-world data over laboratory simulations.

Nunzio La Vecchia, CEO and CTO of nanoFlowcell Holdings plc, explains:
“The average consumption figures we report are based on real driving, not test-bench calculations. WLTP values would be lower, but they would not reflect day-to-day use.”

Inside the vehicle, conditions were intentionally kept functional. Even cup holders were omitted to protect sensitive measuring equipment. Drivers quickly learned that any coffee had to be consumed before or after each test run.

As expected for a hand-built prototype covering this distance, the QUANTiNO required a comprehensive overhaul during the test campaign. However, the nanoFlowcell® unit itself remained unchanged. Only regular servicing and software updates to the intelligent energy management system were necessary to optimise consumption.

Highest level of environmental protection and safety

“In the beginning, we were impressed by the performance and low maintenance of the nanoFlowcell® flow cell. But after 500,000 kilometres, it is its reliability that truly stands out,” says La Vecchia. “The nanoFlowcell® will likely outlast every other component in the car. It is well suited for long-distance transport, such as buses and trucks, and for stationary systems that require reliable, uninterrupted power.”

The QUANTiNO points towards a new quality of electromobility, not only through its range but through the environmental and safety characteristics of its energy technology. To scale this approach, nanoFlowcell Holdings is advancing the industrial production of bi-ION® at consistent quality.

The nanoFlowcell® flow-cell system is ready for market deployment. What is needed now is a sustainable, continuous and large-scale supply of bi-ION® electrolyte. A production volume capable of supporting an international vehicle fleet, combined with an energy density of 600 Wh per litre, marks the threshold for widespread adoption.

“The nanoFlowcell® will probably outlive any other component in the car. It is ideally suited for long-distance transport and fail-safe stationary energy systems,” La Vecchia summarises.
