nanoFlowcell® can be adapted for low-voltage and high-voltage applications. The various QUANT prototypes demonstrate the application of the nanoFlowcell® in different voltage environments. In the automotive sector, however, we will concentrate fully on low-voltage applications in future, because this is where the merits of a low-voltage system outweigh those of a high-voltage system.

Although we are not a vehicle manufacturer, we are nevertheless an enthusiastic development team that can demonstrate the efficiency and modularity of nanoFlowcell® technology not only in the lab, but considerably more impressively in real life, too, with the construction of prototype electric vehicles.

While our QUANT FE shows nanoFlowcell® technology in a classic high-voltage application, we developed a dedicated low-voltage drive for the QUANTiNO 48VOLT. As laconic as it may sound, QUANTiNO is currently the only street-legal electric car in the world with low-voltage drive.

With the QUANT 48VOLT, we will design the very first sports car with low-voltage drive in the history of the automobile - to demonstrate performance and power of nanoFlowcell® 48VOLT drive technology.

Until now, standard practice has been to install a high-voltage drive system in an electric vehicle. People accepted the intrinsic potential dangers of the high-voltage system as there was no other way of achieving the desired performance. We demonstrate that electric mobility is also possible without high-voltage systems. The nanoFlowcell® 48VOLT low-voltage electric drive we have developed is scalable and works with a compact car like the QUANTiNO 48VOLT just as well as with a performance-focused super sports car like the QUANT 48VOLT. The nanoFlowcell® 48VOLT low-voltage electric drive is the most powerful, eco-friendliest, safest and most cost efficient electric drive system on the market today.

In low-voltage systems, high currents require exceptionally large cable cross sections and lead to higher transmission losses. We were able to solve this problem with our design of a nanoFlowcell® 48VOLT low-voltage drive, especially as the nanoFlowcell® generates high currents at a very low nominal voltage, which are perfectly usable for a low-voltage drive.

In the QUANTiNO 48VOLT and the QUANT 48VOLT, we have configured the low-voltage drive architecture in a way that significantly reduces the cable diameters usually required. This is an important development step in the design of low-voltage electric vehicles suitable for series production, reducing cost and weight and also enabling greater design flexibility.

While high-voltage electric vehicles call for full-scale contact and arcing protection, this is no longer necessary in low-voltage vehicles. In the first instance, this means more safety for vehicle occupants and, in the case of an accident, for first responders, too. Secondly, it leads to an accelerated homologation process, as functional safety is easier to implement in low-voltage vehicles.

Right now, we are the only manufacturer worldwide able to realise low-voltage drives in electric cars without having to make compromises in overall vehicle weight or performance. We will take full advantage of this design benefit in the development of future QUANT electric vehicle concepts.
